Tech agrees to open 2009 season with made-for-TV game
Scheduled opener with Cincinnati pushed back

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced Wednesday that Tech has agreed to push back its scheduled 2009 football opener against the University of Cincinnati to 2012 in order to accommodate a made-for-television game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga.

Talks are currently underway with the University of Alabama. In the event an agreement cannot be reached with the Crimson Tide, Tech's opponent will likely be another Southeastern Conference team.

"Both Coach (Frank) Beamer and I believe that participating in this made-for-TV encounter represents an excellent opportunity for our football program and a great event for our fans," Tech Director of Athletics Jim Weaver said.

From what I understand if the VT/Bama game falls through the opponent for VT would be Auburn or UT.

For UT to do that they will have 3 tough games to start the season. They would have to drop Western Kentucky, lose a home game, then play UCLA at home and go to Florida. I wouldn't mind seeing it happen.

I'd say both teams would get a nice payout so losing a home game with WKU wouldn't be too bad.

Bama/UT/Auburn and Nebraska in the same season...maybe that will stop the schedule whining...nah, probably not

bama/vt would be great for both schools, but i think Auburn/VT is more likely to happen

With that, VT would have a schedule that vaguely resembles the normal schedules of every SEC team...thus it would never happer. I would like to see VT-AU tho...

bama wont hardly go further than atlanta, and i doubt VT is willing to play there

AU's going to Morgantown this year...I think they'd be willing to swarp VT in the future..regardless of where it's at.
